The Coffee Chronicles – First Sight

()()()()()

It was a sunny Friday afternoon, and Andi had just left school. After wandering around the city for close to an hour, she came upon a small coffee shop at the corner of March Street. Entering without a thought, she was greeted with the sight of many people milling around, going about their daily business.

Andi sat down in one of the booths in the corner of the shop. Covered in squeaky red vinyl with a dirty gray tabletop, the seating had the feeling of a café that decided to stick with the 50s. Ordering a mocha latte from the waiter, Andi looked around the coffee shop, falling back on her favorite past time- observing people.

Over in the corner, under a large black and white drawing of Elvis Presley, a young couple were sharing a smoothie and giggling. Across the aisle from them was a man in a dark, tailored black suit who drank his (black) coffee while reading the business section of the newspaper. All  in all, Andi decided that this was just a normal coffee shop, with normal people who had normal jobs and average lives. That is, until she turned her head and saw the blonde boy in the corner.

He was drinking some sort of coffee drink (she was too far away to see what it was) and playing with his iPod. The boy's hair was mostly blonde, but at closer inspection proved to have orange and red streaking running through it, making parts of his hair look like it had caught on fire. Adding to this effect was the fact that his hair was sticking up at ridiculous angles all over his head, making Andi fight down the urge to walk over and brush it down. His t-shirt was a simple black one with skull on the front, surrounded by slithering serpents. His pants (khakis) were also black, and faded a little in the knee area. All in all, he wasn't exactly horrid looking. Especially his eyes, which were a deep bluish green…and staring right at her. Quickly looking away, Andi failed to notice the small smile that graced his lips.

James sat in his booth, watching the girl watching him. She was little, under 5'2", with curly black hair falling out of her up-do (which was held up by a pencil shoved through her ponytail)  and around her face and the back of her neck. Pretending to be interested in his coffee (he wasn't, it tasted like feet), he slowly checked her out, careful not to let her notice. She was curvy, in a skinny kind of way. Most of her was covered by a white tank top and sweat pants. Upon closer inspection (he refuses to call it creeping), it is noticed that her eyes are slowly travelling up from his feet back to his face. James decided, on a spur of the moment decision (he would deny planning it all along), to catch her eyes when they reached his face.

James became entranced in her eyes. They were gray, almost silvery, and he just knew that if he looked closely enough there would be little flecks of blue in them. When the girl noticed him watching her, she whipped her head around so fast he thought she would get whiplash, breaking him from the trance her (beautiful, startling, amazing) eyes had put him in.

Gathering up his things in a (not-so) spur of the moment decision, James prepared to walk over to speak to the mystery girl with the pretty eyes.

Of course, once James had walked within 3 feet of Andi, everything went to hell. Unknown to James, Andi was an extremely jumpy person, likely to panic and freak at a moment's notice. So when he tapped her on her (surprisingly tiny) shoulder, the next thing he knew was that he was on the floor with a little midget of a girl sitting on top of him, looking like she was going to try and rip his face off. There was also a burning sensation on his chest, which he belatedly realized was her coffee.

Now, to analyze how the two of them had gotten into this situation. Just as James tapped her on the shoulder, Andi had been drinking the coffee that she had finally gotten. When she felt a pressure on her arm, Andi went into attack mode. Swinging her arm (which was also the hand that was holding her coffee) into his chest, Andi tried to hit him just hard enough to make whoever was standing behind her back up a bit. However, with the sudden movement of her arm, her coffee went flying into James' chest. So when James felt that, his reflexes kicked in and he grabbed Andi's arm. How they actually ended up on the floor is still unknown, but it is likely that when James' balance was compromised by the steaming cup of coffee after grabbing Andi's arm, he went down, pulling her with him.

Which is how the two of them ended up on the floor of a coffee shop, his blonde hair pooling around him like a halo (around a face Andi decided was the face of the devil), and her tiny body sitting on top of him (their position was lost on him, he was more concerned about his loss of air supply).
FINALLY figured out how to submit text deviations...THAT took awhile. So this is actually the fist thing you will see of Andi and James, and that little coffee shop that starts it all. =D
